Product images / PRACTICAL GUIDE
How to prepare product photos for AI generation
Start with one sharp, well-lit photograph of the exact variant you sell. Add other views only when they clarify details the first image cannot show. A clear reference gives the generator useful evidence; a longer description cannot recover unreadable print.
Choose a hero reference that contains evidence
A good source photograph is a record of the product, rather than a finished advertisement. Keep the entire object visible, use a simple background and remove distracting props. Photograph reflective surfaces with broad, soft illumination so the edge is visible without a blown highlight. For an amber bottle, the cap shape, label placement and liquid color should all remain readable.
Do not combine different sizes, flavors or previous packaging editions in the same request. The generator may blend those details. If your hero view shows only the front, add a side view for an unusual dispenser and a close view for a small mark. Keep the main view first and make the brief identify which variant is authoritative.
Build a small reference set
| Reference | What it should prove | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Front or three-quarter | Overall silhouette, color and brand placement | Cropping the cap or feet |
| Side or rear | Depth, closures or construction | A different product edition |
| Detail | Print, texture, stitching or controls | Blur, glare or a label photographed at an angle |
Itemlume Product images accepts up to six product images. You do not need to fill all six slots. More views help only when they add consistent information. PNG, JPG and WebP are supported; export a normal photograph rather than a screenshot full of interface controls.
Use the references in Itemlume
- Open Product images and upload the selected views.
- Describe the product name, exact variant, factual selling points and intended scene. State which visible details must remain unchanged.
- Choose one initial image role and aspect ratio. Keep the model option off if a person contributes no useful context.
- Generate one image, compare it with the source, then decide whether to make the rest of the set.
If a label is wrong, first inspect the input at full size. Retake the photograph when the source text itself cannot be read. If the input is clear but the result still invents lettering, reject that result or correct the artwork in an appropriate editor. Do not treat a convincing photograph as proof of accurate packaging.
Approve the product, then the scene
Check the silhouette, component count, opening mechanism, color and label before judging background quality. A beautiful table scene with the wrong cap is not an approved product image. Then inspect contact shadows, reflections and scale: the bottle should sit on the surface rather than float above it.
- Compare the result and source at a useful zoom level.
- Check fine print and logos character by character.
- Confirm that props do not imply accessories are included.
- Keep an approved reference and rejected-result notes for the next request.

Frequently asked questions
Can I start with a phone photo?
Yes. A sharp phone photograph with clear edges and readable product details is useful. Control glare and background clutter before uploading.
Do six references guarantee fidelity?
No. Reference quality and consistency matter more than filling every slot, and all generated details still need review.
Should the AI model reference be one of the product photos?
Use the separate AI model selector for a person reference. Keep the product upload focused on evidence about the item.
