How to photograph transparent glass for AI product images
Make the glass boundary visible in the source photograph, then review the boundary again in the generated scene. Transparent objects contain the background in their appearance, so replacing a setting can change the apparent liquid, thickness and shape even when the outline looks plausible.
Record the glass and the contents separately
A clear drinking bottle has several different pieces of evidence: the rim, outer wall, base, closure and contents. Photograph an empty bottle if that is what you sell. A reference containing tinted liquid can make the output look like a different material or a filled product. Keep the closure attached unless the open state is important to the image.
Use a simple background with enough contrast to reveal both sides of the glass. Move the light or camera until the rim and base are legible. Capture a second consistent view for a thick bottom or unusual neck; do not add a different bottle from the same collection just because its label is sharper.
Choose the evidence each image must preserve
| Area | Evidence to keep | Reject when |
|---|---|---|
| Rim and neck | Opening shape and glass thickness | The opening becomes solid or changes width |
| Body | Clear, frosted or tinted material | The glass becomes opaque plastic |
| Contents | Actual empty or filled state | A new liquid or fill line appears |
| Background through glass | Plausible continuity and refraction | The rear surface ends at an impossible edge |
A generated image can be a useful campaign exploration, but it is not a laboratory measurement of optical behavior. Judge whether the result describes the item truthfully at the intended viewing size.
Start with a restrained Itemlume scene
- Upload the authoritative bottle views in Product images.
- Describe the glass finish, actual contents and important closure details in the product requirements.
- Start with one uncluttered surface and a simple background. Avoid hands and dramatic liquid movement in the first request.
- Compare the result with the source before introducing a more decorative setting.
Keep the same product evidence when trying a warmer or darker scene. This separates a lighting decision from a change of item. Adding reflections, splashes and several transparent props at once creates more details to inspect without answering a new buying question.
Review edges at two scales
At full size, inspect the neck, base and area behind the bottle. Look for duplicated edges, missing glass or background lines that break unexpectedly. At thumbnail size, check whether shoppers can still distinguish the bottle from its setting. A technically attractive transparent object may disappear in a white collection grid.
If the boundary is unclear in every result, improve the source rather than repeatedly requesting sharper output. Retain a real product photograph for the listing views that establish shape and condition. Use a separate detail view when the rim or closure cannot remain clear in the campaign composition.

Frequently asked questions
Should I remove the background from glass first?
Only if your editing method preserves the transparent regions correctly. A clean original reference can be more useful than an inaccurate cutout.
Does a PNG guarantee transparent glass?
No. File transparency and the appearance of a transparent physical object are different things. Inspect the exported image itself.
Can I add liquid for decoration?
Use it only when the image cannot misrepresent the sale item, contents or material. An empty bottle should remain identifiable as the empty product.
