DECISION GUIDE / Product videos

How should I choose 9, 16 or 25 storyboard shots without losing useful detail?

Choose the smallest storyboard that can communicate the approved product story clearly. More panels divide the same sheet into smaller scenes and divide a short final edit into shorter holds. Decide from the detail each shot must show, rather than treating 25 shots as an automatic quality upgrade.

01 / DECISION GUIDE

Budget pixels per scene, not only per sheet

The current Itemlume workspace offers 9, 16 and 25 shots, corresponding to 3×3, 4×4 and 5×5 layouts. A grid count is a planning choice. It does not show that every scene has enough native detail for a label, seam or engraved mark.

Illustrative calculation: divide a 4096×2304 sheet equally, ignoring gutters and borders. Each cell receives approximately the dimensions below. Real separator space reduces usable scene pixels. Enlarging a crop later does not restore missing original lettering.

LayoutApproximate cell pixelsAverage hold in a 15-second edit
9 shots / 3×31365×7681.67 seconds
16 shots / 4×41024×5760.94 seconds
25 shots / 5×5819×4610.60 seconds
02 / DECISION GUIDE

Give each shot a reason to exist

Fictional exercise: a bottle advertisement needs a recognizable opening, a verified cap detail, a permitted use scene and a clear closing view. Adding nearly identical angles only to fill 25 cells creates more review work without adding a customer answer. A material demonstration may instead need additional distinct states, provided real evidence supports them.

  1. Write the customer question answered by each proposed scene.
  2. Identify the smallest product feature that must remain inspectable.
  3. Remove repeated scenes and unsupported internal or reverse views.
  4. Check a representative cell at its native crop size and the final phone display size.
  5. Select the layout only after the remaining scenes fit the intended edit.

Separate final timing from generated work

The average holds above are arithmetic, not a requirement to give every shot equal time. A label or limitation may need more time than a transition. If a required scene cannot be understood, simplify the story or reconsider the final duration before generating.

Under the reviewed H3 workflow, each approved shot is generated as a native five-second clip before assembly. Nine, sixteen and twenty-five shots therefore represent 45, 80 and 125 native generated seconds before retakes. These are workload figures, not the finished edit length or a guaranteed price. Read the actual stage quote and account access before confirming.

04 / DECISION GUIDE

Approve the layout without claiming an untested result

Review all four proposed sheets against the approved director plan, then approve one sheet and its extracted scene frames. Grid approval does not replace product-identity review or establish that a video motion will preserve the product.

This guide documents current layout choices and illustrative capacity calculations. It does not report a completed 16- or 25-shot video-quality test. Record unresolved detail or timing concerns before proceeding, rather than treating the available selector as evidence that a larger campaign will work better.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Does 4K mean every scene is 4K?

No. A 4K grid sheet contains multiple scenes. Each crop uses only a portion of the sheet's native pixels.

Should all 25 scenes have the same duration?

No. The 0.60-second figure is the average for a 15-second edit. Actual timing should follow the meaning and readability of each approved scene.
