Why can I no longer adjust an effect after Render and Replace?

Render and Replace makes a rendered media version of selected work, and rendered effect settings are no longer edited in the same way. Keep the source project and use the supported restore workflow when further effect changes are needed.

01 / WHY CAN I NO LONGER ADJUST AN EFFECT AFTER RENDER AND REPLACE?

Work through the cause

  1. Save a version before replacement and record which clips were rendered. Keep the original media and related composition files available.
  2. Compare the replacement with the source at a few critical frames, especially logo edges, masks and transparent areas.
  3. If the effect needs revision, restore or return to the original editable work, make the change and create a new reviewed replacement.

A concrete case (illustrative)

Illustrative case: a composited price badge was rendered for smoother playback. Later the campaign price changes, but editing the flattened replacement cannot recover the separate live type. The original composition is the correct revision source.

Acceptance and next action

Pass when the delivery looks correct and the original editable dependencies remain recoverable. A faster preview does not justify discarding the project. Replacement, proxy generation and final export are different stages with different review needs.
