REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
How do I keep a keyboard’s key layout and legends correct in AI photos?
Provide a straight-on layout photograph of the actual keyboard variant, plus details of its distinctive keys. Review key positions and widths before reading individual legends. A keyboard that looks plausible may still show a different regional layout or turn a real function key into an invented control.
Identify what the reference actually proves
Keyboards repeat small rectangular elements, making it easy for a generator to regularize the grid. A tall Enter key can become a horizontal one, a missing key can be filled in and legends may be replaced with familiar symbols. Perspective and colored lighting can conceal these errors. The relevant reference is the sold layout, not simply another keyboard from the same product family.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Record the exact layout and variant. Photograph the entire key field close to perpendicular, keeping all edge keys visible.
- Add details of the Enter area, modifier row, navigation cluster or other distinctive regions. Keep these from the same unit.
- Capture a neutral-light version before any RGB scene. Use the neutral reference for legend and key-shape review.
- Generate a modest scene with the key field still inspectable. Compare a layout map first, then spot-check the distinctive legends and any custom artwork.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Create a desk scene using this actual keyboard layout. Preserve every key position, the Enter-key shape, modifier widths, navigation cluster and photographed legends. Keep the original case and cable connection. Do not normalize the board to a generic regional layout or invent new keys to make the rows symmetrical.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Enter changes shape | Compare the layout overview | Reject the variant substitution |
| A row gains an extra key | Count positions between fixed landmarks | Reject the reconstructed grid |
| RGB light hides incorrect legends | Compare the neutral-light reference | Use a readable angle or genuine detail |
Make the release decision
A generated desk scene should supplement a genuine layout image when the key arrangement affects purchase. Do not infer switch type, rollover performance or software support from the appearance. Keep separate references for genuinely different layouts rather than asking one photo to stand for all variants. If the board cannot remain accurate at the intended angle, reduce the perspective change or use the actual photograph.

Frequently asked questions
Will describing the keyboard as a regional layout preserve all keys?
It helps define the variant, but it does not establish custom key widths, missing keys or legends. Supply the actual layout reference and inspect it.
