DECISION GUIDE / Product videos
What belongs in an editable advertisement project handoff beyond the MP4?
Agree on what the recipient must be able to change, then test that work in their editing environment. A playable MP4 demonstrates a flattened delivery, not an editable project. Package the approved project and permitted dependencies with a manifest, rather than assuming the sender's working folder is portable.
Specify the promised edits first
Fictional exercise: an advertisement plays correctly, but its project opens without music and substitutes a title font. The recipient needs to change the offer and replace one product shot. Those edits cannot be accepted merely by replaying the existing MP4.
List the intended changes and identify the source project, editor version, media, captions, fonts and effects they depend on. Distinguish genuinely editable elements from rendered references supplied only to show the approved appearance.
Choose a delivery route for every dependency
Adobe's Project Manager documentation describes collecting project media. Collection alone does not establish that every recipient has the software or permission needed to use every dependency.
| Practice dependency | Handoff route | Acceptance check |
|---|---|---|
| Product source clips | Collect permitted originals | Relink correct scenes |
| Title font | Record authorized access | Intended type remains editable |
| Music and captions | Identify permitted files | Timing and usage match |
| Third-party effect | Record version and access | Required edit still works |
Run the receiving-workstation exercise
Keep the sender's approved project unchanged. Use a separate copy on the recipient's properly equipped workstation, without relying on the sender's original media folders.
- Record the agreed editor version and intended editable elements.
- Collect authorized media and a dependency manifest with relative locations.
- Open the copied project, relink media and identify missing resources.
- Perform the agreed offer-text change and product-shot replacement.
- Export a review copy and compare typography, sound, captions and the changed scene.
Resolve licensing gaps before calling it editable
Adobe Fonts licensing distinguishes artwork use from font software. Do not redistribute a font file merely because it appeared in the advertisement; verify the actual font license and the recipient's authorized access. Other assets have their own terms.
If a dependency cannot be transferred, agree on a permitted replacement or explicitly limited rendered element. Record the limitation before acceptance. Itemlume provides generated media, not a native editing-project exporter or a guarantee that external plugins will work elsewhere.
Record the decision in a manual worksheet
Editable-project dependency manifest — fictional practice rows
The download contains fictional practice rows. Actual evidence and release decisions are blank for you to fill in. This manual record does not inspect products, update a store or certify compliance. Keep private material out of public copies.

Frequently asked questions
Is the project file alone a complete delivery?
No. Test its required media, software resources and permissions against the edits actually promised.
Can a rendered title replace a missing live font?
It can preserve a reference appearance, but does not fulfill a promise of editable title text without an agreed alternative.
