REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
How do I stop AI changing an umbrella’s ribs and canopy panels?
Photograph the actual umbrella open from outside and underneath, keeping the configuration consistent. Review panel boundaries and rib attachments together. A round canopy with a similar color can still depict a different construction, and a folded reference cannot establish the unseen open structure.
Identify what the reference actually proves
The repeated triangular panels of an umbrella can be regularized into a generic radial pattern. AI may add ribs, move the shaft away from its actual attachment or make a seam end without a matching support. Shadows under the canopy can also look like extra ribs. Choose references that make physical members distinct from printed panel divisions and lighting patterns.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Identify the exact umbrella variant and obtain actual supported open-state photographs. Record any asymmetry or distinctive panel arrangement.
- Capture an underside view showing the shaft, rib junctions and canopy attachments. Keep a complete exterior view for the panel pattern.
- Add a close view of a representative rib end or attachment where the construction is otherwise ambiguous. Do not combine different sizes or editions.
- Generate a supported open view and trace one panel boundary to its corresponding structure. Inspect shaft placement before accepting an outdoor scene.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Show this umbrella in its actual photographed open configuration. Preserve the canopy-panel arrangement, visible ribs, shaft attachment and handle. Keep printed seams separate from physical supports. Do not add ribs for symmetry, invent a different mechanism or infer an open construction from the folded photograph alone.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| A shadow becomes an extra rib | Compare the underside reference | Reject invented structure |
| Panel seams and supports disagree | Trace the same boundary in both views | Reject mismatched construction |
| The shaft connects at an impossible point | Inspect its actual attachment landmark | Use a supported angle |
Make the release decision
The image does not verify wind resistance, rain performance or opening reliability. Keep performance claims tied to appropriate evidence. If the intended scene requires a view not available in the references, capture it or choose another composition. A real underside image can be especially useful in the gallery because a decorative exterior scene may hide the construction buyers need to inspect.

Frequently asked questions
Can a closed umbrella photo establish the rib count?
Usually it does not reveal the complete open construction. Obtain an actual open and underside reference rather than letting AI invent it.
