Image remix / PRODUCTION GUIDE
How do you remix an ad when its lighting hides your replacement product?
Keep the reference’s useful hierarchy, but change its lighting or background when those choices hide your replacement product. An ad built around a glossy black bottle may not serve a pale matte pouch. Review the product’s actual color and finish separately from the reference’s mood so improving visibility does not redesign the merchandise.
Map the reference’s light relationships
Identify the brightest region, the darkest region, the first focal point and the space reserved for the main message. Note whether the old product stands out through a bright edge, a dark silhouette, reflected light or background contrast. These relationships explain why the composition works more clearly than a general description such as luxurious lighting.
For a hypothetical reference, a dark bottle catches a narrow bright reflection against a dark wall. The replacement is a cream paper pouch with a matte surface. Copying the reflection literally could make the pouch look coated or plastic. Preserve the hierarchy of product and headline, then decide how a different material can remain visible within it.
Set product invariants before changing the scene
Use a photograph of the exact replacement SKU under understandable light. Record its color, finish, silhouette and essential text. Distinguish the surface’s actual appearance from a lighting cast in the source. A campaign background can change; the product should not acquire a different material or darker variant merely to fit the old ad.
| Conflict | Scene change to explore | Product change to reject |
|---|---|---|
| Pale matte item on a pale field | Separate the surrounding tone or light direction | Turn the item into a dark colorway |
| Black item on a dark field | Make a supported edge or surface readable | Invent glossy coating |
| Clear container against busy shapes | Simplify lines around the boundary | Make transparent material opaque |
The options are editorial directions to inspect, not guaranteed lighting controls.
Borrow the relevant reference role
Adobe describes style references as guidance for look and feel. That principle helps explain why a reference need not dictate every light relationship. The replacement product may require another physical treatment while retaining the original message order and amount of visual quiet.
Pebblely’s reference-image tutorial separates composition and color examples. It is an older tutorial, so use its explanation as context rather than its historical buttons or generation modes. Define the influence you want in ordinary requirements. Neither source establishes that Itemlume can automatically separate a reference’s style from its structure or exposes the same strength settings.
Request one inspectable lighting adaptation
In Image remix, provide the permitted reference and actual replacement product. State the hierarchy to retain and the background or light relationship that needs changing. For the cream pouch, specify the actual matte paper appearance and a clear boundary against its surroundings. Keep the approved copy unchanged while assessing this lighting decision.
Review the returned candidate as a generated concept. Compare the merchandise color and finish first, then inspect visibility and headline hierarchy. If the pouch becomes metallic or the artwork is altered, reject that change even if the ad is easier to read. Exact finishing belongs to an external editing workflow where needed; the workbench does not provide a dedicated local relighting or cleanup tool.
Approve contrast at the campaign’s display size
Place the candidate at its intended viewing size and ask a reviewer to identify the sale item without reading the headline. Then compare the source-visible product details. If the item is clear only because its color was changed, the adaptation fails. If a small background adjustment makes the correct pouch readable, record that relationship for the next variant.
Use the shape-adaptation guide for footprint changes and the color-variant guide for identity review. Keep the lighting exception in the campaign brief. A template should describe how to preserve product visibility across finishes, rather than force every SKU to imitate the original object’s highlights.

Frequently asked questions
Must the replacement use the reference’s exact light?
No. Preserve the useful hierarchy and adapt lighting when the actual color or finish needs another treatment.
Can I darken the product to improve contrast?
Do not change the merchandise variant. Explore the surrounding scene and verify the actual product color.
Does Itemlume expose a reference-strength or relighting slider?
Do not assume vendor-specific controls exist here. Use the available remix choices and inspect the generated candidate.
