Image remix / SCENARIO GUIDE

How to remix an ad when your product has a different shape

Preserve the reference’s communication idea while adapting the space to your product. A layout built around a tall bottle will rarely fit a wide pouch unchanged. Choose which relationships matter and let the framing change instead of stretching or hiding the new item.

01 / HOW TO REMIX AN AD WHEN YOUR PRODUCT HAS A DIFFERENT SHAPE

Extract the useful relationship

Suppose the reference uses one large bottle on the left and a short benefit on the right. The useful idea may be a clear product-to-copy hierarchy, not the exact bottle footprint. For a broad coffee pouch, a lower product position and wider clear area can retain that relationship without pretending the pouch is cylindrical.

Use a reference that you are permitted to use. Identify its light direction, focal hierarchy and amount of empty space in plain language. Replace another brand’s wording and identity with your own approved information. A close layout reference should not become a request to imitate distinctive brand artwork.

02 / HOW TO REMIX AN AD WHEN YOUR PRODUCT HAS A DIFFERENT SHAPE

Match the adaptation to the shape mismatch

Reference → replacementAdaptationAvoid
Tall bottle → wide pouchWiden the product area or change copy positionCompressing the pouch
Flat box → round jarAllow depth and a credible contact shadowA jar with rectangular edges
Single item → bundleIncrease separation and reduce propsHidden or invented components
Small item → furnitureUse a new scale and camera contextKeeping implausibly tiny proportions

The replacement’s real geometry takes priority over a perfect silhouette match to the reference. If the target ratio also changes, revise the layout rather than attempting two incompatible constraints at once.

03 / HOW TO REMIX AN AD WHEN YOUR PRODUCT HAS A DIFFERENT SHAPE

Use Image remix with explicit priorities

  1. Upload the visual reference in Image remix and add the actual replacement product separately.
  2. Choose the mode according to whether broad style or relative placement matters.
  3. Describe the layout relationship to keep and the shape changes the new item requires.
  4. Generate one version, then compare product geometry and information hierarchy independently.

If the copy area no longer fits, reduce the amount of text or move it in your editing workflow. Do not shrink the item until shoppers cannot identify it. A successful adaptation serves the new product rather than defending every pixel of the original composition.

04 / HOW TO REMIX AN AD WHEN YOUR PRODUCT HAS A DIFFERENT SHAPE

Approve the adapted idea

First ask whether the replacement is the correct item, with accurate proportions, labels and component count. Then check whether the intended hierarchy survived: can a viewer find the product and the main message quickly? Finally inspect intersections, shadows and the new amount of negative space.

Keep notes on why you changed the arrangement. Those notes become a reusable campaign direction for other shapes in the collection. If every new SKU requires a different exception, develop a flexible layout family instead of calling one rigid reference a universal template.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Does closer composition require the same product shape?

No, but a different shape often needs a layout adjustment. Prioritize the actual replacement product over exact placement.

Should I stretch my product photo to fit?

No. Preserve the item’s proportions and adapt the space around it.

When should I choose another reference?

Choose another when the current composition depends on a shape, interaction or viewpoint your product cannot support.
