Why does my shortened product sequence leave black frames in a longer edit?

A nested clip can retain its duration after its source sequence changes. If the source becomes shorter, the parent edit may still reference an empty tail. Inspect the nesting boundary before blaming the generated footage.

01 / WHY DOES MY SHORTENED PRODUCT SEQUENCE LEAVE BLACK FRAMES IN A LONGER EDIT?

Work through the cause

  1. Open the nested source sequence and identify its last intended picture and audio. Save before changing any timing.
  2. Return to the parent sequence and inspect the nested clip’s out-point. Trim or rebuild the placement to match the revised source where appropriate.
  3. Review neighboring transitions, music and the parent’s export range. Inspect the final file through the ending.

A concrete case (illustrative)

Illustrative case: a product montage is shortened from eight seconds to five, but the parent still contains an eight-second nested placement. Its last three seconds no longer show the intended content.

Acceptance and next action

Pass when the parent has no unintended empty tail and the final hold has the intended length. Source changes can affect other nested instances; check them separately. This guide addresses a downstream edit state, not a failed AI generation.
