DELIVERY TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
Why does changing one product in my Photoshop template change another?
Duplicated embedded Smart Objects can share their contents. If two placements need different products, make an independent Smart Object copy before editing the second. Moving a layer or renaming it does not establish independence.
Work through the cause
- Save a working copy of the template. Identify the two product layers and note which placements should remain synchronized.
- For the independent placement, use Layer > Smart Objects > New Smart Object via Copy. Replace or edit the contents of that new object.
- Temporarily change only the new object, then inspect both placements. Restore the intended image and save the test copy separately.
A concrete case (illustrative)
Illustrative case: a comparison banner needs a small bottle on the left and a large bottle on the right. Editing a shared duplicate changes both bottles. Create the independent right-hand object before placing the large bottle, rather than masking over the mistake with another flattened image.
Acceptance and next action
Approve when replacing the right-hand product leaves the left-hand product untouched, while intentional repeated placements still update together. Keep SKU names in layer names, but verify the pixels as well. Itemlume can supply a raster creative; this template operation takes place in Photoshop.
