Why does a replacement product become stretched or badly cropped in a PSD mockup?

Work through the cause

1. Record the placeholder’s canvas proportions and the product’s visible bounds. Keep an untouched copy of the template for comparison.
2. Prepare the replacement in a source canvas suited to that placeholder, preserving the product’s own proportions. Replace the contents in the working copy.
3. Inspect straight edges, circles and the complete silhouette. Adjust placement or the source canvas instead of stretching the product to fill the slot.

A concrete case (illustrative)

Illustrative case: a narrow tube replaces a square jar placeholder. Filling the entire old footprint makes the tube appear too wide. Add appropriate space around the tube in its source document, then fit its placement deliberately.

Acceptance and next action

Pass when the actual product proportions remain intact and intentional clipping is documented. A perspective mockup is still a concept, not a dimensional proof. The new source fitting the old slot does not establish that the physical package has the same geometry.
