DELIVERY TROUBLESHOOTING / Assets & tasks

Why does exporting a Photoshop layer comp bring back an old product arrangement?

Layer comps capture selected document states. A later edit is not automatically the state saved in every comp. Update the intended comp after arranging the correct layers, then inspect that comp again before exporting.

01 / WHY DOES EXPORTING A PHOTOSHOP LAYER COMP BRING BACK AN OLD PRODUCT ARRANGEMENT?

Work through the cause

  1. List the comps that will be delivered and note whether they record visibility, position or appearance. Do not update all comps indiscriminately.
  2. Activate one comp, make the intended correction and update that comp. Switch to another comp and back to verify the stored result.
  3. Export to a new folder and compare each exported filename with the visible product and arrangement. Keep the PSD and export list together.

A concrete case (illustrative)

Illustrative case: a launch layout has separate front-view and detail-view comps. Moving the front product while the detail comp is active can leave the front comp unchanged. Correct and update the intended comp, then export both states for review.

Acceptance and next action

Pass when reactivating each comp restores its approved arrangement and the corresponding export agrees. If a comp warns about missing layers, resolve the warning rather than approving from memory. This is state management in Photoshop, not automatic Itemlume version control.
