REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Packaging studio
How do I check whether a molded-pulp insert marks my product?
Evaluate the actual insert in contact with the actual product finish. A clean packaging render cannot establish whether handling leaves fibers, rub marks or transferred material. Keep movement restraint and surface protection as separate questions, even when the insert fits the product well.
Identify what the reference actually proves
An insert may locate the item accurately while its contact surfaces interact poorly with a polished, coated or dark finish. A concept often removes all texture, making the contact appear harmless. The relevant evidence is not the insert alone but the pair: the selected molded material and the finished sale product. Do not infer a result from a different coating or substitute insert that merely has the same shape.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Record the actual insert material, product finish and intended contact regions. Photograph both before assembly so existing marks are not mistaken for new transfer.
- Agree on an appropriate handling or evaluation procedure with the producer and responsible quality team. Do not invent a universal transport test from a marketing guide.
- Open the evaluated sample and inspect each contact region under comparable light. Distinguish removable loose fibers from a changed surface, documenting observations without concealing them.
- If the pairing changes, repeat the relevant evaluation and update the accepted packaging reference. Keep fit approval separate from surface-contact approval.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request for a concept: Show the product seated in the supplied molded-pulp insert with its actual contact layout and representative texture. Do not smooth the insert into plastic or imply tested surface protection. The physical product-and-insert evaluation will establish whether this contact combination is acceptable.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The item does not rattle but shows contact marks | Compare before and after at mapped regions | Treat restraint and protection separately |
| A sample uses a different product coating | Check the finish record | Do not transfer approval automatically |
| The render removes all insert texture | Compare the representative material reference | Avoid idealized contact claims |
Make the release decision
Keep evaluation photographs and the exact material pairing with the packaging handoff. This is a practical evidence record, not a shipping certification. If the surface condition is uncertain, investigate rather than editing the marks out of the sample photo. A future polished marketing image should represent an accepted packaging design, with protection claims limited to the evidence the responsible team actually holds.

Frequently asked questions
Does an insert that holds the item tightly guarantee protection?
No. Restraint and surface compatibility are different properties. Evaluate the actual contact materials and finished product together.
