REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Virtual try-on
How do I preserve a lace garment’s scalloped hem in AI try-on?
Photograph the hem where a complete lace motif meets the actual lining. The scalloped edge and the lining edge are separate boundaries. Review them independently so AI does not turn the hem into a straight cut, extend the lining or expose areas the real garment covers.
Identify what the reference actually proves
A lace pattern may continue beyond an opaque lining, making several overlapping contours visible. A generator can choose the wrong one as the garment edge or treat the background behind openwork as part of the fabric. A close crop of a flower alone is insufficient because it does not establish the relationship among motif, scallop and backing. The necessary evidence is the transition from lined body to open border.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Capture the complete garment in a supported neutral pose, including the hem and lining length. Record the actual color of each layer.
- Take a straight-on detail that includes at least one full scallop and adjacent motifs, with the lining transition visible above it.
- Add an angled detail only when it clarifies layer separation. Do not combine a lined production garment with an unlined sample as interchangeable references.
- Use a modest initial try-on pose. Inspect the hem contour and coverage at normal viewing size and in a close crop.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Dress the selected model in this referenced lace garment. Preserve the photographed scalloped hem, motif scale and separate lining boundary. Keep the actual opaque coverage and the visible openwork border. Do not straighten the scallops, extend the lining to the outer edge, remove the backing or invent a different transparent panel.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The hem becomes a straight horizontal line | Compare a complete scallop in the source | Reject lost border construction |
| The lining reaches the lowest lace tips | Compare the two original boundaries | Reject changed layer length |
| The pattern remains but coverage changes | Inspect the garment on the actual reference | Reject unsupported transparency |
Make the release decision
Use a real hem detail for buyers who need to understand coverage and finishing. A generated full-body pose may be supplementary but should not establish opacity under every lighting condition. If the lining is hidden in the source, capture it rather than filling in a plausible length. Revisions should name the changed boundary so the next attempt does not merely reproduce another decorative lace pattern.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use an unlined supplier photo for the same lace pattern?
Only as clearly separated pattern context, if you have the necessary rights. It cannot establish the lining length or coverage of the actual garment being sold.
