REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
How do I show a folding product without AI inventing its hinge motion?
Capture the actual folded and open states with the hinge region visible. Add a supported intermediate state when the path matters. Two attractive endpoints do not prove that a product can move between them as AI imagines, especially when panels pass through each other or rotate around the wrong axis.
Identify what the reference actually proves
A folding stand, desk accessory or storage object may have several pivots and stops. AI often creates a plausible open shape while moving the joint or ignoring collision between panels. An endpoint photograph establishes that endpoint, not the entire motion path. Separate the hinge’s fixed attachment from parts that move, and do not use an invented sequence as an assembly instruction.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Operate the actual product according to its intended use and photograph folded and open configurations. Keep identifiable joint landmarks visible.
- Capture a close view of the hinge attachment and any physical stop. Do not force an unsupported angle merely for a more dramatic photograph.
- If an intermediate pose is needed, photograph that real pose. Record which parts remain fixed relative to each other.
- Generate one supported state first. Review hinge position, panel intersections and ground contact before attempting a sequence or animation.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Show this folding stand in the supplied open configuration. Preserve the actual hinge axis, attachment points, panel thickness and stop position. Keep the moving panels separated as in the reference. Do not invent an additional pivot, pass one solid panel through another or imply an unsupported folding path.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The hinge moves to a more convenient corner | Compare fixed attachment landmarks | Reject changed construction |
| Panels intersect in the open view | Inspect the actual intermediate reference | Reject impossible geometry |
| Endpoints are right but the sequence is invented | Check whether the path was documented | Use genuine motion evidence |
Make the release decision
Use a real operation sequence for instructions or an important mechanism demonstration. A generated still may help present an approved endpoint, but it does not establish load capacity, locking reliability or safe use. Where the hinge is hidden, choose a view that reveals it or retain a real detail. A source set that explains the mechanism is more useful than repeated requests for mechanically realistic motion.

Frequently asked questions
Are folded and open photos enough for an animation?
They establish endpoints, but may leave the hinge path ambiguous. Capture supported intermediate states or genuine footage when operation matters.
