REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Product images
How do I keep a candle’s wick and flame believable in an AI scene?
Choose whether the candle is new and unlit or already burning, and supply a reference for that state. Check that each visible flame belongs to an actual wick. Adding a dramatic flame should not duplicate wicks, erase the container rim or turn a new candle into a used one without an intentional decision.
Identify what the reference actually proves
A lit candle combines an emitting flame, a dark wick and a changing wax surface. A new candle reference establishes the container and original wax but does not explain a burn state. AI can place a flame above the center regardless of wick position or add a second flame where a reflection appears. Decorative glow can also hide the rim, making the candle seem to have a different opening or fill.
Prepare the evidence before generating
- Capture the new sale unit with its actual wick arrangement and label. Keep the lid visible separately if it is part of the item.
- If a burning scene is required, use a responsibly obtained actual lit reference and identify it separately from the new-unit photograph. Do not invent a universal burn-time setup.
- Take a view where the wick positions, wax surface and container opening can be understood together. Distinguish reflections in glass from additional flames.
- Generate a restrained scene and check wick-to-flame alignment before accepting the atmospheric glow. Keep any relevant safety instructions from verified product information.
Example creative request and a review matrix
Illustrative request: Show the referenced candle in the approved burning state. Preserve the actual wick count and positions, container opening, label and wax surface. Attach each flame to its corresponding wick and keep reflections physically separate. Do not add wicks, widen the jar or make the flame obscure product identity. Do not infer burn duration from the scene.
| Observed symptom | Evidence to inspect | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| A second flame appears on the glass | Compare wick locations and reflected images | Reject an extra physical flame |
| Flame floats above an unconnected dark line | Inspect the wick-to-flame junction | Reject the disconnected source |
| New wax remains perfectly flat in a used-state claim | Compare the actual selected state | Use supported imagery or a genuine photograph |
Make the release decision
An approved image is not a test of fragrance throw, burn duration or safe operation. Keep those claims separate. Where a generated flame repeatedly changes container detail, use the actual lit photograph and edit only its surroundings. The gallery can include both new and burning views when their roles are clear; it should not make a buyer guess which state they receive.

Frequently asked questions
Can one new-candle photo prove what it looks like while burning?
It establishes the new item, not its changing burn state. Obtain appropriate actual evidence or keep the generated presentation unlit.
