REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING / Packaging studio

Can an AI packaging render prove that Braille is readable?

No. A rendered pattern of dots cannot establish correct Braille content, physical dot formation or tactile usability. Keep the concept separate from approved transcription and a physical sample reviewed by suitable people. Treat accessibility as a real product requirement, not a decorative embossing effect.

Identify what the reference actually proves

A generator may produce a visually convincing dotted texture that has no valid meaning. Even correct digital artwork does not show the height, spacing, material behavior or usability of the manufactured result. A photograph is also a visual record rather than a tactile evaluation. RNIB’s product-design guidance emphasizes usable orientation and interaction; it does not make a generic render a substitute for examining the actual product.

Prepare the evidence before generating

  1. Define the actual information to communicate and obtain an appropriate Braille transcription and production specification from qualified sources. Do not invent the dot pattern with an image model.
  2. Keep the approved content, artwork revision and intended reading orientation together. Identify the exact packaging face in the handoff.
  3. Produce a representative physical sample and arrange suitable content and tactile usability review. Document who reviewed what, without substituting a visual-only approval.
  4. Use a concept render only to discuss location and appearance. Keep any claim of accessibility limited to the actual scope of the completed evaluation.

Example creative request and a review matrix

Illustrative request for placement discussion: Show the designated tactile-information area on this packaging concept without inventing Braille characters. Preserve the reserved location and reading orientation. Use approved artwork only when supplied, and identify the image as a concept. The physical sample and qualified review remain necessary for a readability decision.

Make the release decision

Applicable requirements depend on the product and destination; this guide is not a legal or manufacturing standard. Obtain the relevant current specifications and responsible professional review. Do not present accessibility as certified because an image passed a marketing review. A useful public image can explain where the tactile information is, while real usability evidence must come from the physical design and the people using it.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Is a close-up photograph enough to approve tactile readability?

No. It can document appearance, but it cannot replace appropriate transcription, production checks and tactile evaluation of the physical sample.
