How to convert measurement units in A+ content without adding false precision
Converting a measurement changes its numerical expression, not the certainty of the original measurement. Keep the source value, conversion calculation and displayed result in separate fields. Approve one consistent rounding policy before building the A+ visuals, then check that every module carries the right unit and the same underlying product dimension.
Keep the source value unchanged
Start with a verified measurement whose definition is already clear. Record its source unit, product revision, endpoints and any stated tolerance or approximate status. Preserve that record unchanged when preparing another unit for a different audience. A converted result should remain traceable to the same physical quantity rather than becoming a new specification with a more precise sounding decimal.
Use a worksheet outside Itemlume with fields for source value, conversion factor, unrounded result, displayed result and approved unit label. Retain enough calculation detail to diagnose a mistake without filling the public module with unnecessary digits. The workbench accepts approved facts for generation; it does not provide an automatic measurement conversion service or validate the merchant's calculation.
Decide the displayed precision deliberately
Mathematical exactness and physical measurement precision are separate questions. A calculation can produce many decimals from a source that was only recorded to a coarse level. Choose a display that remains useful without implying additional physical knowledge. Apply the same policy across the module set instead of rounding each number toward whichever appearance makes the product seem more appealing.
| Situation | Decision | Reason to hold |
|---|---|---|
| Source marked approximate | Retain approximate meaning after conversion | New unit looks exact |
| Long calculated decimal | Round under an approved display policy | Extra digits imply unsupported precision |
| Value near a fit threshold | Use authoritative fit evidence and defined clearance | Convenient rounding changes suitability |
| Different modules disagree | Return to one source worksheet | Independent edits changed a value or unit |
Use a simple conversion example without upgrading certainty
For an illustrative worksheet, suppose the source is an approximate external width of 250 mm. Using 25.4 mm per inch gives about 9.8425 inches before display rounding. A displayed value such as approximately 9.8 inches can preserve the rough explanatory role. This example demonstrates calculation handling; it is not a measured Itemlume output or a recommendation for a universal product tolerance.
If a buyer asks whether the object fits an exact opening, neither approximate display is enough by itself. Obtain the relevant authoritative dimensions and fit conditions. Do not choose 9 inches because it sounds compact or 10 inches because it looks reassuring. Rounding should follow an agreed informational purpose, and a fit decision should not rest on a stylized generated arrow or an unexplained rounded value.
Supply the approved strings to A+ content
In A+ content, enter the approved measurement wording and units in Product facts & requirements, then choose a relevant existing module. Include any necessary approximate qualifier. Review the candidate for digit substitutions, lost decimal points, transposed units and contradictory repetitions. A correct worksheet does not guarantee that the raster text reproduces it exactly.
Use externally prepared approved text artwork when exact numerical presentation is essential. Check that the artwork uses the same worksheet version as the image. Also inspect arrows and endpoints; converting an outside width accurately does not make it a usable internal width. Keep numerical transformation and physical span review separate so a correct conversion cannot conceal the wrong measurement definition.
Make correction ownership clear
NIST emphasizes clear association between numerical values and units.
Handoff the source worksheet version and approved display strings with the exported module. If a reviewer finds a mismatch, identify whether it belongs to the source measurement, calculation, rounding policy or rendered text. That distinction determines who should act. Regeneration cannot settle an uncertain source value, while changing the merchant worksheet to match incorrect generated lettering compounds the error.
Use data provenance review to establish the source and terminology control to keep labels aligned. Recheck every occurrence after a correction. A module set is coherent only when its public numbers map to the same approved physical definitions and unit policy.

Frequently asked questions
Does conversion justify more decimal places?
No. A precise calculation does not add precision to the underlying physical measurement.
Does Itemlume convert measurements automatically?
No automatic conversion or measurement validation is claimed. Prepare and approve values outside the workbench.
What if a rounded value changes whether something fits?
Obtain authoritative dimensions and fit conditions; do not make that decision from an approximate display value.
