How to keep product terminology consistent across A+ modules
Give each real component one approved name, with a plain-language explanation where necessary. Resolve synonyms before generating modules, and do not merge different parts under one convenient label. A hero image, comparison chart and support explanation should use wording that preserves the same product meaning.
Find naming conflicts before they become image text
An illustrative modular desk organizer has a shallow tray, removable dividers and a separate pencil cup. One draft calls every component an insert, while another calls the tray a drawer. Those words can imply different construction or actions even if the product photographs are accurate. The issue is not simply inconsistent style.
Collect the current manual, specifications and approved product copy. Highlight the terms used for the same component and terms that appear to merge different components. Ask the product owner which name is authoritative. When suppliers use conflicting language, resolve the actual part identity before choosing the most familiar word.
Build a controlled vocabulary that answers a buyer question
| Term decision | Example treatment | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Approved component name | Divider for the removable separator | Keep one part recognizable across modules |
| Plain-language explanation | Divider: separates the tray area | Explain an unfamiliar term at first use |
| Forbidden conflation | Do not call the tray a drawer | Avoid implying an unsupported sliding mechanism |
| Abbreviation | Explain the full term before shortening | Prevent unexplained initials |
| Variant-specific term | Use only for the edition that has the part | Avoid migrating a different SKU’s construction |
Keep the glossary concise. Its job is identifying real components and claims, not adding technical language to sound authoritative. Record the source and approval owner so a later editor can understand why an apparently harmless synonym was rejected.
Apply names across modules before generating
In A+ product pages, supply the approved terminology with the product facts for the selected modules. Keep the same component names in the hero explanation, detail captions, comparison entries and supported use advice. State which term needs a short explanation instead of asking the generator to improvise a definition.
Check translations separately when a campaign uses another copy language. A common English synonym may have no matching meaning in the target market. Preserve model names and factual identifiers where appropriate, and have a qualified reviewer approve the final wording. Itemlume's language setting does not maintain an automatically enforced merchant glossary.
Audit meaning rather than only spelling
Read the output text beside the component photograph. Correctly spelled drawer is still wrong if the organizer contains only a lift-out tray. Follow each label through the sequence and confirm that its pictured target stays consistent. Review icons and arrows as well; a label can point to a neighboring part and create another naming error.
Shopify's description guidance treats specifications, suggested uses and evidence as product information. The vocabulary should serve those facts. When exact wording is essential, retain the approved text for destination text fields or an appropriate editing workflow rather than accept invented lettering in a generated image.
Record changes and the modules they affect
A revised term does not always require a new product photograph. Identify where the old wording appears and whether replacing it changes only the label or also reveals a factual misunderstanding. If drawer led an illustrator to add sliding rails, correcting the word alone cannot fix the fictional mechanism.
Update the external glossary and review the affected assets, including reused SKU modules. Keep prior terms for traceability while making the approved current term clear. The merchant owns this vocabulary and approval process; Itemlume does not automatically scan your catalog for synonyms, rewrite earlier images or synchronize terminology with a supplier's changing documentation.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need technical terms in every module?
No. Use clear approved names, with a brief explanation when necessary. Avoid unnecessary jargon and ambiguous substitutions.
Can two synonyms cause a factual problem?
Yes. A synonym may imply a different component, mechanism or capability. Verify meaning against the product before treating it as a style choice.
Does choosing a copy language enforce my glossary?
No. Supply approved terminology and review generated wording and translations. Maintain the merchant glossary outside the generation workflow.
