Packaging studio / DECISION CHECK
Can a rectangular label fit my tapered bottle without wrinkling?
Measure the actual container where the label will sit. A bottle’s overall height and maximum circumference do not define a usable label template, especially around a shoulder, taper or base curve. Test a paper template and obtain supplier confirmation before production.
Locate the usable surface
Identify the bottle edition and the intended front, seam and application height. Measure the relatively suitable labeling area instead of including curved shoulders simply because they look smooth in a render. A label that reaches across a changing surface can wrinkle, overlap unevenly or lift at its edge. The correct construction depends on the actual container and label process.
Avery’s measuring guidance recommends checking the shape and using a cut-and-wrap template. A generated bottle scene does not supply those measurements. Keep a photograph and a physical sample of the actual container with your measurement record.
Record dimensions with their locations
| Measurement | Where recorded | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Usable height | Chosen label region | Avoid shoulder and base interference |
| Upper/lower widths or circumferences | Actual placement boundaries | Detect taper |
| Seam or gap | Intended closure side | Prevent unintended overlap |
| Orientation | Front relative to cap or feature | Keep the reading face aligned |
| Template version | Supplier-approved reference | Prevent artwork on an obsolete shape |
Do not infer a universal label shape from these fields. A specialist may recommend a shaped label, smaller placement or different application method. Their approved template is the production authority.
Test a real-size dummy
For an illustrative refill bottle, print a simple paper template at actual size and wrap it on the real container. Check the top and bottom edges, seam and front reading area. Mark interference directly on the sample. A smooth digital mockup is useful for appearance review but cannot establish adhesive behavior or machine-application suitability.
Return geometry to the artwork brief
After supplier confirmation, fit the design to the approved flat template and keep essential copy within its specified safe region. Use Itemlume Packaging studio to explore the appearance, while retaining the separate measured template and proof. Approve the physical sample before scaling production. Avoid describing a generated concept as a measured manufacturing file.

Frequently asked questions
Is the widest bottle circumference enough?
No. Record the actual placement region and taper.
Can a mockup prove wrinkle-free application?
No. Use a real template and relevant physical testing.
Who approves the final label shape?
The supplier or qualified packaging specialist for the actual process.
