DELIVERY TROUBLESHOOTING / Assets & tasks
Why does my new Shopify product layout appear in preview but not on the live product?
Previewing a product with a template does not by itself assign that template to the product. Verify the product’s assigned template and the published theme before investigating caching.
Work through the cause
- Record the template name and the theme containing it. Confirm that the preview is showing the intended product.
- Inspect the product’s template assignment in the admin and determine whether the required template exists in the live theme.
- Open the actual product URL outside the theme preview and compare its layout. Publish only the reviewed theme and assignment changes.
A concrete case (illustrative)
Illustrative case: an A+ layout looks correct when the designer selects a product inside the editor. The product remains assigned to the default live template, so shoppers still see the old layout.
Acceptance and next action
Pass when the public product uses the intended assigned template in the published theme. A preview URL is evidence of a preview, not proof of a completed launch. Avoid repeatedly reuploading the image when the layout assignment is the real difference.
