Assets & tasks / PRACTICAL CHECK

What should you save before handing off an unfinished creative draft?

Save enough context for the next person to continue the decision, not just recognize the product. An unfinished draft may contain selected inputs, edited wording, an unapproved storyboard or a task already submitted. Record those states explicitly outside the workbench and verify what is actually retained before leaving the current session.

01 / WHAT SHOULD YOU SAVE BEFORE HANDING OFF AN UNFINISHED CREATIVE DRAFT?

Identify the stopping point precisely

State whether the work is an unsent brief, a prepared storyboard awaiting review, a submitted generation or an output awaiting creative approval. These are different handoff states. A teammate who mistakes a pending task for an unsent idea might submit it again; one who mistakes a suggested storyboard for an approved plan might skip the missing evidence check.

In an illustrative backpack campaign, the merchant has written the product facts and chosen a first image, but has not approved the storyboard. The missing decision concerns whether the zipper pull is visible enough. Save that question and the real reference that can answer it. A screenshot of the workbench alone does not explain which choices are confirmed.

02 / WHAT SHOULD YOU SAVE BEFORE HANDING OFF AN UNFINISHED CREATIVE DRAFT?

Preserve the inputs and choices needed to resume

Keep the exact product and variant, authoritative reference files, intended output role and current draft wording. Record the selected format and relevant visible options rather than relying on remembered defaults. If a combined image is needed as the video source, identify that actual image; separate assets do not automatically describe the final composition.

Add who confirmed each important fact and which parts remain proposals. Preserve user-authored product facts and creative notes through an appropriate local document or approved handoff package. Do not include private system instructions, account credentials or unrelated customer data. An external draft record is a practical checkpoint, not a promise of built-in shared projects or permanent autosave.

03 / WHAT SHOULD YOU SAVE BEFORE HANDING OFF AN UNFINISHED CREATIVE DRAFT?

Use a compact checkpoint table

Record fieldBackpack exampleNext person’s decision
Product evidenceCurrent blue backpack and zipper close-upVerify the same edition
Confirmed directionQuiet exterior feature shotRetain the agreed purpose
Unresolved choiceZipper visibility in first imageSupply a clearer scene or simplify
Operation stateStoryboard not approved; no video submittedReview before submitting
Cost checkEarlier estimate recorded as historicalCheck the current quote before a new request

The example is illustrative. Replace its fields with the real work state; do not copy the example’s submission status as if it described your task.

04 / WHAT SHOULD YOU SAVE BEFORE HANDING OFF AN UNFINISHED CREATIVE DRAFT?

Write the next action with its dependency

A useful instruction states what can happen once a specific condition is met. For the backpack: compare the zipper close-up with the selected first image, then decide whether the storyboard can be approved. This avoids an open-ended request to finish the video that conceals an unresolved source problem.

Keep review decisions separate from production completion. Creatify describes creative review checkpoints in its own workflow; our recommendation is a manual checkpoint for Itemlume, not an equivalent collaboration feature. The recipient should know which approval they are being asked to provide and whether the original creator must still perform the account operation.

05 / WHAT SHOULD YOU SAVE BEFORE HANDING OFF AN UNFINISHED CREATIVE DRAFT?

Check the package before closing the session

Open the saved record and verify that its references identify accessible, intended files. Confirm that the recipient has the material needed for their role without sharing an Itemlume login. If a submitted task exists, include its state and owner’s follow-up responsibility so the next person does not create an accidental duplicate request.

When work resumes, compare the record with the current account and quote. Inputs, facts or availability may have changed. Update the draft before submitting a new operation rather than treating yesterday’s saved settings as a fresh approval. The checkpoint preserves a decision trail; it does not certify that an unfinished generation or unreviewed output is ready to publish.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Is a screenshot enough to hand off a draft?

Usually not. Add exact inputs, confirmed decisions, unresolved questions and whether anything has already been submitted.

Can the recipient open my unsent workbench state?

Do not assume shared access. Use an appropriate manual record and independent account boundaries.

Does saving an earlier quote approve a later request?

No. Treat it as historical context and check the current quote and settings before submission.
