Image remix / DECISION GUIDE
What should you do when your reference ads have conflicting layouts?
Choose one primary layout for each remix candidate and describe any secondary influence as a limited visual attribute. Several attractive references can contain incompatible decisions about headline position, product scale or lighting. Resolve those conflicts in your brief first; more references do not automatically create a more coherent advertisement.
List the decisions contained in each reference
Consider three references for a moisturizer: one centers the jar under a headline, another places a bottle at the side of a dark scene, and a third uses a close crop with a large price badge. They are not three equivalent examples of “premium.” Each makes a different decision about attention, space, product identity and message. A request to combine everything leaves the important hierarchy unresolved.
Write one sentence about the job of each reference. You might keep the first layout, borrow the second image’s restrained color relationship and discard the third image’s offer badge. This is manual creative planning. It does not require access to Itemlume’s internal generation instructions or an imaginary slider for weighting individual references.
Choose a primary layout and explicit exclusions
| Conflict | Choose before generation | Reject in the candidate |
|---|---|---|
| Centered versus side product | One product location | A compromised, undersized product |
| Headline-first versus product-first | One attention order | Two competing headlines |
| Bright versus dramatic light | One supported lighting direction | A product glowing against an unrelated scene |
| Offer badge versus no offer | Current approved message role | A copied discount from another brand |
Keep a short exclusion list beside the chosen structure. If the reference includes an unsupported award, a second product or a time-limited offer, name it as excluded. A secondary reference should not become permission to introduce facts that are absent from your own brief.
Keep product evidence outside the inspiration argument
The exact product photograph establishes the jar’s shape, lid and label. The advertisement establishes a layout direction. Do not treat an attractive reference bottle as substitute evidence for the jar merely because its color fits the campaign. When a borrowed layout requires the product to become taller or narrower, change the layout rather than the item being sold.
The Photoroom editing article separates reusable production decisions from product-specific accuracy checks. Use that distinction here: you can choose a common scene treatment while still reviewing the actual object independently. Itemlume does not certify fidelity because several references agree about a mood.
Submit one assessable direction in Image Remix
For a candidate in Image Remix, use the selected composition reference and the exact replacement product. Describe the limited secondary influence in ordinary requirements, such as a restrained palette or a quieter supporting surface. Do not assume that uploading a collection of reference images will blend them into a single weighted design.
If two hierarchies are genuinely worth comparing, make two separately planned candidates with the same product and approved message. Keep the difference small enough to explain. One can prioritize the product and the other the headline; changing the lighting, offer, crop and target audience at the same time prevents a useful comparison of the hierarchy itself.
Review whether the chosen structure actually won
For the illustrative moisturizer campaign, compare the result with the selected primary reference and your decision list. Can a reviewer identify the first focal point? Is the jar still the correct shape? Did a discarded badge return as faint text or a background symbol? Reject unresolved conflicts instead of treating a blended appearance as creativity.
Save the primary reference, limited secondary influence and excluded elements in your external brief. When revising, change the disputed decision rather than adding another advertisement. If no candidate can support the approved copy and exact product together, select a different primary layout. The goal is a clear new advertisement, not a record of how many references were supplied.

Frequently asked questions
Can I blend several reference advertisements automatically?
Do not assume that the workbench blends reference uploads into one weighted layout. Plan one primary composition for each candidate.
How many secondary influences should I keep?
Keep only influences whose role you can state and review without contradicting the primary hierarchy or product evidence.
Should I upload another reference when a candidate is confused?
First identify the conflicting decision. Another reference can add ambiguity when the product location, message order or lighting has not been settled.
