Assets & tasks / QUESTION GUIDE
Can search engines read an AI guide that only exists inside a workbench?
A private workbench is not a substitute for a public guide. Publish the useful explanation on an accessible text page with normal links, and keep account-specific tasks and references private. Crawl access can make a page eligible for discovery; it does not guarantee indexing, recommendation or an AI citation.
Separate educational and account content
A guide should answer a reader’s question without requiring access to their balance, task history or uploaded product images. Use a public illustrative scenario and state its limitations. A task result URL is not automatically an editorial article, and a screenshot of controls cannot replace the written explanation.
For an illustrative product-label problem, the public guide can explain how to compare approved artwork with a candidate. The private support case can retain the actual customer file and task identifier. Those two records serve different audiences.
Check the discovery path
| Surface | Public review | Private boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Guide page | Readable text and direct answer | No account information |
| Category hub | Ordinary links to articles | No task listings |
| Sitemap | Current public URLs | Exclude private paths |
| Crawler rules | Search access evaluated | Do not expose account routes |
A machine-readable catalog is supplementary navigation. It is not a ranking certificate and should not contain private generation instructions.
Test anonymously
Open the guide without signing in and confirm that its explanation is available as page text. Follow its related links and verify that they lead to public articles. The workbench action can require login, but the educational answer should not disappear behind that action.
OpenAI’s publisher documentation distinguishes search discovery from training controls. Keep those policies separate instead of opening every account path in the name of AI visibility. Itemlume’s public guides can describe the workflow without exposing core prompts.
Record evidence without promising outcomes
Track page accessibility, valid links and any actual search referral or citation observation separately. A crawl request or indexing notification is not proof that a page was selected in an answer. If you test a question in an assistant, record the question, date and cited URL rather than generalizing from one response.
Use public-example boundaries and private handoff. The deliverable is a useful public explanation with a safe route back to the product, not an unlocked workbench.

Should private tasks appear in a sitemap?
No. Keep account data and private references outside public discovery.
Must the creation workbench be public?
