Assets & tasks / DEEP-DIVE GUIDE

What creative needs replacing when a product changes?

When a product changes, review the assets that make claims about the changed detail rather than blindly regenerating the entire campaign. Start with the current sale edition, trace where the old evidence was used and prioritize any image or video that could make the customer expect the wrong item.

01 / WHAT CREATIVE NEEDS REPLACING WHEN A PRODUCT CHANGES?

Define the change in ordinary product terms

A supplier might replace a screw cap with a pump while leaving the brand and bottle size unchanged. Write a concrete change record: old cap, new pump, affected SKU, effective stock edition and confirmed unchanged facts. “Packaging refresh” is too vague to tell an editor which assets remain accurate.

Do not assume that a cosmetic update has no effect on use imagery. A new closure can change how a person holds the product, how it appears in an open-state photograph and what an unboxing clip should show. Obtain new source photographs before asking AI to represent the revised object.

02 / WHAT CREATIVE NEEDS REPLACING WHEN A PRODUCT CHANGES?

Build a small dependency list outside Itemlume

List the existing product image, remix, A+ module, packaging concept and video that show the old detail. Record the source edition and publication destination beside each. My assets helps locate generated results by tool; it does not automatically know which external store pages or ad campaigns use a downloaded file.

AssetQuestion to answerLikely response to a cap-to-pump change
Identification imageDoes it show the current sold edition?Replace
Material close-up away from closureIs the shown material unchanged?Review before retaining
How-to-use moduleDoes the operation still apply?Recheck instructions and visuals
Product videoIs the old closure visible in any frame?Review the whole clip
Brand-only graphicDoes it depict or describe the changed item?May remain usable after review

This is an illustrative decision table. The actual response depends on what is visible and what is still factually true.

03 / WHAT CREATIVE NEEDS REPLACING WHEN A PRODUCT CHANGES?

Prioritize customer expectation mismatches

Replace assets that identify the item or demonstrate the changed operation first. A shopper should not choose a product from a screw-cap image and receive an unfamiliar pump without a clear explanation. Next review specifications, included contents and comparisons. Pure atmosphere can wait only when it does not continue displaying the obsolete product.

If old and new stock are sold at the same time, establish the actual offer with the operations team. Creative cannot decide inventory policy. Do not publish a single “current” image until the destination makes clear which edition a buyer will receive. Keep any explanatory wording grounded in the real fulfillment arrangement.

04 / WHAT CREATIVE NEEDS REPLACING WHEN A PRODUCT CHANGES?

Regenerate from the revised evidence

Use the new physical-product references when creating replacement images. Do not use an attractive old generated image as the only product source: it contains the superseded detail. Reuse the approved scene direction where appropriate, but allow the changed geometry to alter framing and interaction.

For a video, approve a revised first frame before requesting motion, and review the full result for the old component reappearing. For A+ content, replace the affected module and check its neighbors for contradictory wording. The workflow is a factual update; an unnecessary full visual redesign can make review harder by changing many unrelated things at once.

05 / WHAT CREATIVE NEEDS REPLACING WHEN A PRODUCT CHANGES?

Confirm replacement at every known destination

After downloading approved assets, update the store pages and campaigns in their respective publishing tools. Open the actual public destinations to confirm that the new file is displayed in the intended slot. Check thumbnails, variant selectors and cached previews where available. A file saved in My assets has not automatically replaced the old published version.

Mark the previous asset as retired in your own campaign record and retain enough history to explain which edition it represented. Do not delete evidence needed for business records simply to tidy a folder. Finish by reconciling the change record with the destination list: every affected placement should have an explicit replaced, retained-after-review or pending decision.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Does Itemlume automatically update my existing ads when a product changes?

No. Generated assets must be reviewed and replaced in the external destinations where you published them.

Must I remake an entire campaign after a label refresh?

Not automatically. Inspect every asset for the changed detail or associated claim, then replace the affected ones.

Can the old generated image be the reference for the new edition?

Keep the new physical product photograph authoritative. An old output can carry superseded construction or wording into another generation.
