Assets & tasks / FIELD GUIDE
What facts should you give AI before it writes product copy?
Give the writer a fact sheet with explicit unknowns. A photograph can establish visible form, but it cannot establish battery life, material composition or a warranty. Keep the source for each claim beside the claim, and require missing information to remain missing.
Separate observation from specification
For an illustrative headphone brief, an image may show dark ear cushions and a padded headband. It does not prove that the fabric is a named fiber or that the device cancels noise. Put visually observed details in one column and manufacturer-approved specifications in another. Record the revision so the draft does not borrow facts from a previous model.
Shopify warns that generated descriptions can introduce benefits or facts not supplied by the seller. Use this as a review reminder. It is not evidence that a particular Itemlume generation has been tested or that automated drafting is currently available on every published workflow.
Use a factual input sheet
| Field | Input example | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Visible detail | Padded headband | Reference photograph |
| Approved specification | Verified value with source | Exact wording or range |
| Unknown | Battery runtime unavailable | Omit, do not estimate |
| Excluded claim | No approved health claim | Never introduce |
Examples here are fictional. Replace them with the product owner’s current evidence. A competitor listing is research about its product, not a specification source for yours.
Download the SKU fact review CSV worksheet and fill it with your own authorized evidence in a spreadsheet editor. The included row is clearly fictional, not a measured result. Version, scope, reviewer and status fields support a manual handoff; Itemlume does not automatically inspect your store, verify facts or certify accessibility.
Review sentences by their source
Mark each factual sentence with the field that supports it. Review implied claims too: “all-day comfort” is stronger than “padded headband,” even though neither contains a number. Keep aspiration and atmosphere separate from statements about what the item does.
Hand off the approved vocabulary
Save the fact sheet, approved terms and rejected phrases with the brief. Use them for posters, listing copy and video scripts so each channel starts from the same product truth. The A+ benefits guide applies facts to module copy; source tracing keeps the resulting asset connected to its evidence.
A completed input example
A fictional writing sheet lists a dark gray finish and padded headband from the approved photograph, an exact model name from the catalog and battery runtime as unknown. The draft can name the finish and padding; it must not add a runtime or active noise cancellation. If the product owner later supplies a verified runtime, update the sheet with its revision and source before revising the text. Keep the earlier exclusion visible in the history. That record explains why a missing specification was deliberately omitted rather than forgotten by the writer.

Frequently asked questions
Can AI fill an unknown specification from a photo?
Do not treat that guess as product evidence.
Are competitor descriptions a fact source for my SKU?
No. Verify your own product.
Should unknown fields be deleted from the brief?
Keep them explicit so the reviewer knows what must be omitted.
