How do you proof Arabic text mixed with Latin names and numbers?
Mixed-direction text needs a separate proofing pass. Correct words can appear in the wrong visual order when Arabic or Hebrew text is combined with Latin names, numbers and punctuation. Use a qualified language reviewer and inspect the actual final rendering.
Identify the mixed runs
For a hypothetical bilingual carton, list the product name, model code and numeric value embedded in the right-to-left line. Preserve the approved logical text as well as a visual proof. Do not reverse a string manually to make one screenshot look correct; that can break editing, search or another export.
W3C explains bidirectional text behavior, including mixed strings and punctuation. Its web examples establish the issue, but the packaging designer must use the appropriate controls in the actual layout application.
Use a direction-proof worksheet
| Element | Reviewer checks | Handoff |
|---|---|---|
| Local-language line | Reading sequence | Approved logical text |
| Latin model code | Character and segment order | Exact identifier |
| Number and unit | Value and placement | Verified source |
| Punctuation | Association with sentence | Visual proof |
A generated image with apparently fluent script is not reliable language or typography proof. Keep exact copy in an editable, appropriately configured design.
Review both flat and physical views
Check the flat artwork first, then the panel orientation on the mockup and supplier proof. A fold or curved surface can interrupt the reading path even when the line order is correct. Ask the reviewer to read the content aloud or explain the interpreted model and quantity.
Preserve the approved export
Inspect the final PDF or other supplier-required file after export. Verify that font handling and direction remain correct. Itemlume packaging concepts are not automatic mixed-script production typesetting. Use panel language hierarchy and exact character handoff for adjacent checks.
A mixed-string proof exercise
A fictional Arabic panel includes a Latin model identifier and a numeric quantity. Ask the language reviewer to read the final rendered line and identify both values. Compare that interpretation with the approved logical text, then inspect punctuation and segment order in the editable artwork. Repeat the check after PDF export and on the folded panel view. Do not reverse characters to repair one screenshot. The desired result is a stable, correctly configured text and export workflow that preserves meaning through editing and production.

Frequently asked questions
Can I simply reverse Arabic text characters?
Use appropriate directional layout controls and qualified review.
Does fluent generated lettering prove correctness?
No. Review exact editable text and final rendering.
Does W3C web guidance configure a print file?
It explains the issue; the actual design application needs its own handling.
