Logo studio / QUESTION GUIDE
Which visual cues should survive a logo redesign?
List the current identity cues and decide which should remain, which should change and why. A redesign can keep a distinctive silhouette or word rhythm while correcting weak details. Do not assume that a completely different mark is automatically more creative, or that retaining every old feature is necessary.
Separate evidence from attachment
Collect the actual current master and examples of its use. Ask the brand owner which cues matter and what problem the redesign should solve. Distinguish observed customer confusion from personal preferences. If nobody has measured recognition, record that limitation instead of claiming that a color or shape is widely remembered.
For an illustrative outdoor brand, the useful cue might be a simple peak outline while the tiny internal illustration is difficult to use. The redesign can explore the outline without preserving every decorative detail.
Write a retention decision
| Cue | Current role | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Main silhouette | Potential continuity | Retain or evolve with reason |
| Word rhythm | Name identification | Preserve readable spelling |
| Color | Application family | Review separately |
| Small decoration | Historical detail | Remove if no useful role |
This worksheet is not a market-recognition study. Use real customer research when a major identity change depends on that evidence.
Brief the redesign around the stated problem
In Logo studio, describe the business and vision, the current cues you intend to preserve and the specific weakness to improve. Review whether the generated concepts solve that weakness. A new three-dimensional mockup can make an unrelated mark feel more polished without improving its identity.
Develop the selected concept into an approved master externally. Compare old and new in the same plain contexts, using the same presentation scale. Keep spelling, contrast and production needs in the review.
Plan the transition after approval
Decide where continuity matters during rollout, such as an existing shop header or package range. Keep old and new master files clearly identified so a recipient does not select whichever is easiest to find. Explain whether mixed versions are temporarily allowed.
Use migration planning for the rollout and unbiased concept comparison for selection. The retention record should explain the design decision before the campaign replacement begins.

Frequently asked questions
Must a redesign preserve the old color?
No. Decide from the actual identity and application needs.
Can I claim a cue is recognizable without research?
Describe it as a proposed continuity cue unless evidence supports stronger wording.
When does rollout planning begin?
After the new master and permitted transition behavior are approved.
