Virtual try-on / FIELD GUIDE

Is the size printed on a garment the same as its measurements?

A size label identifies a catalog option; it does not by itself establish the garment’s dimensions or personal fit. Build the chart from the product owner’s measurements and definitions. Do not derive a chart from a model image or invent universal conversions between labels.

01 / IS THE SIZE PRINTED ON A GARMENT THE SAME AS ITS MEASUREMENTS?

Define what is being measured

For a hypothetical shirt, a chest measurement may refer to the garment laid flat, a doubled circumference or a suggested body range. Those are different values. Record the measurement method and whether the chart describes the garment or the intended wearer. A number without its basis can mislead even when the arithmetic is correct.

Check the actual size labels used in the store. If a supplier uses letters and another uses numbers, obtain an approved mapping for this product rather than applying a generic international chart.

These fields form a drafting worksheet, not a fit prediction or a production tolerance specification. Confirm those separately with the product owner.

03 / IS THE SIZE PRINTED ON A GARMENT THE SAME AS ITS MEASUREMENTS?

Use imagery only for its actual role

A varied model set can show styling and appearance. It cannot establish which size will fit an individual shopper. If a real photographed sample has a known size, state it accurately; do not assign a generated model an invented body measurement to make the image look more useful.

04 / IS THE SIZE PRINTED ON A GARMENT THE SAME AS ITS MEASUREMENTS?

Verify the selector and chart together

Select every option in a draft listing and check that the chart uses the same names and product revision. Keep the explanation readable on a phone. Use size-specific references and fit boundaries before approving the visuals.

05 / IS THE SIZE PRINTED ON A GARMENT THE SAME AS ITS MEASUREMENTS?

A measurement-basis conflict

A fictional supplier sheet lists a chest value measured flat, while the draft chart labels it as a circumference. Do not merely convert units or enlarge the number in the layout. Ask the product owner to resolve the measurement basis and supply the approved public form. Keep the nominal size option unchanged unless its mapping is also being corrected. Review the resulting chart with a reader who can explain what was measured. This catches a semantic error that an arithmetically correct conversion would preserve.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions

Does an M label establish a fixed dimension?

Use the measurements approved for that product.

Can a model image create the chart?

No. Obtain measured and defined size evidence.

Does a body-diversity image prove individual fit?

No. Keep fit guidance separate from generated appearance.
