How to write an A+ brand story without inventing a founder legend
A useful brand story explains a real choice behind the product. It does not need a dramatic founder biography, a historic workshop or an unsupported mission claim. Start with something the business can substantiate today and connect it to a detail the customer can actually evaluate.
Look for an observable choice
For a hypothetical stationery brand, a relevant story might be the decision to use an undated weekly layout because the intended customers plan irregular schedules. The business can explain the decision and show the layout. It does not need to claim a century of craftsmanship or invent a designer’s personal struggle to make the idea meaningful.
Gather short answers from the people who know the product: which design choice was deliberate, which audience need informed it and which tradeoff was accepted? Keep records for any statement about origin, materials, founders or production. If the evidence is not available, choose a different story rather than adding cinematic wording.
Connect purpose, decision and visible evidence
Write three sentences outside the workbench. The first names the intended situation. The second explains a product decision. The third points to a visible result. For the planner example: some weeks are planned intensively and others are not; the pages are undated; unused pages can be started later. This is an illustrative reasoning pattern, not approved copy for a real product.
Shopify’s brand-story guide connects the business purpose with the product and audience. Apply that useful relationship without borrowing another retailer’s origin story or claiming that a narrative has delivered measured sales results for your own brand.
Choose evidence-led imagery for the module
| Story element | Suitable visual evidence | Avoid inventing |
|---|---|---|
| Layout decision | The actual page arrangement | A nonexistent research lab |
| Visible construction choice | A real detail photograph | An undocumented workshop process |
| Intended use context | A plausible scene with the product | A fabricated customer testimonial |
| Documented company history | Approved historical material | A generated founder presented as real |
An AI model can appear in an illustrative use scene, but it should not become the named founder, employee or customer without genuine evidence and appropriate permission. A human face is optional; a clear product decision can carry the story on its own.
Brief the Brand story module precisely
In A+ product pages, select Brand story only when it adds information to the sequence. Provide the verified narrative, the exact product edition and short approved English wording. State the visible evidence the composition should emphasize. Avoid combining an entire company biography, every feature and a purchase offer into the same image.
Review the candidate for implied facts as well as written statements. An old factory, artisan bench or scientific instrument can imply a manufacturing history or testing process. Remove that setting if it is unsupported. Keep the module visually related to the product page without letting the atmosphere replace the explanation.
Decide whether the story earns its place
Place the candidate beside the existing hero and benefit modules. If it repeats a slogan without adding a real reason behind the product, shorten it or omit it. Ask a reader what new fact they learned and where they can see its consequence. A response such as “the brand feels premium” is a mood judgment, not evidence that the story communicates something specific.
Proof every date, location and first-person statement before publication. Keep the approved narrative in your own brand records so later translations and campaign variations do not accumulate fictional details. A small, accurate story can remain useful as the product evolves; an embellished history becomes harder to correct each time it is repeated.

Frequently asked questions
Can a new brand have a meaningful story?
Yes. A documented present-day purpose or design decision can be relevant without a long company history.
Should AI write a founder biography from my product description?
No. Supply verified founder facts if they belong in the module, or focus on an evidenced product decision.
Is the Brand story module required?
No. Include it when it adds a distinct, supported explanation to the product page.
